It's almost Omer's birthday!

03-02-08

Hello everyone,

Well, I didn’t write for quite a while. I was very busy finishing up my last rotation. I ended up loving it—it was a lot (A LOT!) of hard work; I have to say that even though I thought I was going to be miserable during the rotation I was wrong. I learned a lot… my responsibility level was kicked up several notches, and it was a good experience.

In my last week there, I was standing waiting for the elevator when I saw this huge furry dog come in. Now, you don’t often see huge furry dogs (or any dog for that matter) in the hospital. This was Tyler… a therapy dog! I pet him and he leaned his huge head on my body. Oh, what a dog! I fell in love! I am such a sucker for dogs…

Also during my last week at my rotation my great-grandmother Nany (Margaret) passed away. She was 96 years old and clear as a bell. Two or three months after I started writing my online blog (so… about October of 2004) I begun sending her copies of every entry I made—I enlarged it to a font 20 so she would be able to read it by herself with no difficulties. It was such a pleasure for me to send it to her. I know she enjoyed it because she told me she did, and that was so nice to know that my little ditties were eagerly read by her and sometimes her dinner-table pals. Anyways, the last thing she said to me was “I know it is you Reut. I love you. Be a good doctor.” Nany also gave me her ‘rubies’ (because she wasn’t “rich enough for diamonds”). Here are the ‘rubies’ from a recent phone conversation:
1. The most important thing is family.
2. Enjoy what you are doing.
3. If you don’t like what you are doing, change it.
4. Be happy.
5. One more time: family, family, family.

…How I wish my own mom would have lived this long…

Well, to “exciting” news: I am in rural family medicine. Ick. It’s okay, it’s just… I don’t know… boring? Tedious? Repetitive? I have 3 more weeks, and then I’ll be done with this. I’ve been trying to set up my last two weeks of medical school… I’ve been having a difficult time with it—I wanted to do radiology, but… that doesn’t look like it’s going to be an option. I tried to set up pediatric neurology, but… it’s not working out too well. Oy! I just need to make up the 2 weeks from last year and then I’ll be done. Would someone let me do a rotation please? (Yes, I am sure it will work out, but I am kind of down to the wire… and would like to get it solved already).

My dad came to visit last weekend—it was so much fun!!! I love it that he comes. There was this huge snow storm and he decided to drive in the snow . He did very well (dad you drove in the snow several times before, right?). I was happy dad drove, because despite driving in it before…I hate ice, and I hate snow. I really ought not to live in this part of the country.

Last bit—I’ve been dancing with Richard (my Sweatin’ to the Oldies DVD) for about 4 weeks now!!!!!!! I love it! It’s getting to the point where it is a bit too easy for me. I need to get his other DVD’s and then add some other ones. I also added some minimal weight training and good stretching. It is such a blast that by the end of the day I can’t wait to do it!!! WooHoo! My friends Matt and Erica moved out of their apartment yesterday, and I helped them carry the heavy stuff down—I was hurting afterwards (because, hey, their stuff was heavy and going down 3 flights of stairs with it was hard), but… I still couldn’t wait to exercise today and felt great about it!

That’s about it. My cats have been doing great.

Have a good week everyone!
